Pick-up and Drop-off (Tours and Rentals)
For rentals, unless otherwise agreed, you will pick-up and drop-off the vehicle at the office through which you reserved the vehicle. Our hours are from 8AM to 8PM everyday from May to October and from 9AM to 5PM (sometimes 6PM other monthes). If you want to pick-up or drop-off outside those hours you’ll need to pay for a city or airport delivery and we can meet you wherever is convenient. Deliveries to other cities are coordinated according to your schedule.
For tours pick-up and drop-off is typically at your hotel, but we can meet you anywhere in the city. Exact details will be agreed in each case.
Our Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan office is located at the southern end of Tynalieva Street where it crosses Abdrahmanov. Click here to see it on Google Maps.
Our Almaty office is located centrally on 305, Zhandosov street.
Driving License Requirements
Kyrgyz law and the road police require that you have either a notarized translation into Russian (or Kyrgyz) or an International Driving Permit (IDP). Both options require your national license together with the IDP or translation to be valid. In most countries either your license bureau or an automobile club (such as AAA in the USA) issue the IDP. If you cannot acquire one, Iron Horse Nomads can help with translating and notarizing your license for a fee. We will ask to see your license when you pick up the car and may refuse service if you do not have a valid or correct license and permit.
Changes (Tours and Rentals)
Vehicles and Plans subject to change with little or no notice due to the unpredictability of life in Central Asia. We do our best to make sure that you get the exact vehicle and plan, but uncontrollable circumstances sometimes intervene. In the event of a change in plans we will notify you as soon as possible. We will supply alternatives or a full refund at our discretion. We reserve the right to make changes without notice if the situation requires it.
We also recognize that sometimes client’s plans change. If you need to change the dates of your rental or tour please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org. If we have a vehicle available we will transfer your rental to those dates. If it is not available, then we can cancel your booking as described above.
Reservation Deposit (Tours and Rentals)
For your booking to be confirmed you need to pay a minimum of a 15% deposit (non-refundable) to reserve your tour or rental. This is done through online card payment. Within a day or two of making your booking we issue a payment request that you can pay directly with your card. We will hold your booking for one (1) week from the time we issue the payment request. If we have not received the payment information from you by that time we reserve the right to cancel the booking (cancellations are done manually, so if you haven’t received a cancellation email, we haven’t cancelled your booking yet).
Refund Policy (Tours and Rentals)
Cancellations are accepted at any time. In the event of a cancellation the 15% reservation fee will be kept by Iron Horse Nomads, the remainder of the rental price will be refunded (if you have paid in full). Please address any cancellation requests (or other questions) to email@example.com.
Payments (Tours and Rentals)
All payments should be made by credit or debit card (Visa and Mastercard/Maestro accepted). This can be done in advance through our online payment system or on site through a POS terminal. If you wish to pay by cash please let us know in advance.
Security Deposit (Rentals Only)
You are required to leave a security deposit of $300 when picking up the car. This must be done by card (Visa/Mastercard) or by cash in Bishkek and only by cash out of the Bishkek office. This is to cover the damage waiver and any other situations (such as automated traffic fines) that may arise. In most circumstances the hold is released when you return the car. You will be notified if you are being charged and you will be presented with a receipt for the charge.
When you arrive to take your rental car you will need to present your national driving license, your international driving permit (IDP) or notarized translation into Russian (which we can prepare for you), and your passport. We will make copies of these and give them back to you.
Additional drivers are welcome up to 3 total drivers per car. More than three will incur a fee to cover extra document preparation. The amount depends on the situation and which countries you plan to drive in. Please ask for more information.
We hate spam and we think you do to. We will never disclose your contact information without permission to anyone other than those who need it for the arrangements you have asked us to make. Your privacy is important and we will not share any details about you to anyone without an immediate business necessity (i.e. if you are over 60 and we have to add your name to our insurance policy).
