4 Days: Short Immersion into the Nature, Culture & History of Central Asia
Day 1: Charyn Canyon – Kolsay Lake – Saty Village
Your journey begins in Almaty, from where you depart early in the morning towards the spectacular landscapes of southern Kazakhstan.
Your first stop is Charyn Canyon, one of Kazakhstan’s most impressive natural wonders, often compared to the Grand Canyon. Walk through the famous Valley of Castles, surrounded by towering sandstone cliffs and dramatic rock formations sculpted by wind and water over millions of years.
Continue towards the magnificent Kolsai Lakes, a chain f crystal-clear alpine surrounded by fir forests and mountain ridges. Enjoy a relaxing walk by the shoreline and breathe in the fresh alpine air.
In the evening, arrive in Saty Village, the gateway to the Kolsai and Kaindy region. Enjoy a traditional homemade dinner and experience the warm hospitality of a local guesthouse.
Overnight: Saty Village
Day 2: Saty – Kyrgyzstan Border – Karakol – Przhevalsky Museum – City Tour
After breakfast, depart from Saty Village and continue south towards the Kyrgyzstan border, crossing through the spectacular mountain landscapes of the Tien Shan.
Arrive in Karakol, a charming historic town surrounded by high mountains. Visit the Przhevalsky Museum and Memorial Complex, dedicated to the famous Russian explorer and geographer Nikolay Przhevalsky. The museum provides an insight into his expeditions across Central Asia and the history of geographical exploration in the region.
Continue with a walking tour of Karakol, including:
Karakol Bazaar — a lively local market where you can experience everyday Kyrgyz life and try the famous ashlamfu, a traditional Dungan noodle dish.
Holy Trinity Orthodox Church — an elegant wooden church dating from the late 19th century.
Dungan Mosque — a unique wooden mosque built without the use of nails, featuring distinctive Chinese-influenced architectural elements.
Enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of this historic mountain town.
Overnight: Karakol
Day 3: Karakol -Jeti-Ögüz – Issyk Kul Shore – Barskoon Gorge – Fairy Tale Canyon –Bokonbaevo
After breakfast, depart from Karakol and begin your journey along the spectacular southern shore of Issyk-Kul Lake.
Your first stop is Jeti-Ögüz, meaning “Seven Bulls”, where massive red sandstone cliffs rise dramatically above the surrounding valley. Discover the legends and stories associated with these striking rock formations.
Continue along the scenic southern shore of Issyk-Kul, with panoramic views of the vast blue lake framed by the snow-capped peaks of the Tien Shan.
Explore Barskoon Gorge, famous for its rugged mountain scenery, forested slopes and spectacular waterfalls cascading down the valley.
Later, visit Fairy Tale Canyon, a surreal landscape of red and orange sandstone formations sculpted by centuries of wind and erosion. Walk among the unusual shapes and narrow canyons that give this place its magical name.
In the evening, arrive in Bokonbaevo, a traditional village on the southern shore of Issyk-Kul.
Overnight: Bokonbaevo
Day 4: Bokonbaevo – Eagle Hunting Show – Kok-Moinok Canyons – Burana Tower – Bishkek
Start your final day with a fascinating demonstration of traditional Kyrgyz eagle hunting, one of the country’s most distinctive nomadic traditions. Watch local hunters demonstrate the ancient art of training and handling golden eagles, a practice that has been passed down through generations.
After the show, depart from Bokonbaevo and continue towards Bishkek.
Visit the spectacular Kok-Moinok Canyons, a lesser-known natural attraction featuring dramatic sandstone cliffs, narrow corridors and colorful rock formations.
Continue to the historic Burana Tower, one of the most important surviving monuments of medieval Central Asia. Built in the 11th century near the ancient city of Balasagun, it once formed part of an important Silk Road settlement. Explore the archaeological site, including the ancient stone balbals, ruins and remnants of the medieval city.
Continue to Bishkek, where your journey through the spectacular landscapes, cultural traditions and Silk Road heritage of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan comes to an end.
